Try a fictional sample:

Works with text PDFs that have Date, Description, Paid in / Paid out (or Amount) and Balance columns. Scanned or photographed statements are not supported yet. The samples are fictional test data.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Choose your PDF

Use the statement PDF from online banking or your banking app. Add one, or a whole year at once.

  2. Step 2

    We check every balance

Each row’s balance is recalculated. If a row is missing or misread, you see exactly which one and by how much.

  3. Step 3

    Download your CSV

Get a CSV for Excel, or a file laid out for Xero or QuickBooks. It is made in your browser and saved straight to your computer.

The whole-year check

Year-end work rarely means one statement. It means twelve, from a client, with no guarantee they are all there. Add every statement at once and StatementToCSV checks them against each other:

  • Missing months. A gap between one statement’s end and the next one’s start.
  • Duplicates. The same statement saved twice, counted once.
  • Overlapping periods. An interim statement that repeats rows from the monthly ones, counted once.
  • Broken carry-over. A closing balance that doesn’t match the next opening balance.
  • Every penny explained. The difference for the year is broken down into what the checks found, down to £0.00 unexplained.

Then download one combined CSV with a source-file column on every row. Read how the whole-year check works.

Opening, 1 Oct 2025£2,540.75
Closing, 30 Sep 2026£25,268.94
Difference after 314 rows£2,050.59
July statement missing£2,161.32
March: one row missing−£110.73
May saved twicecounted once
Interim statement overlapcounted once
Unexplained£0.00
From the fictional sample set you can run above (Several statements, then the sample).

Exports for Excel, Xero and QuickBooks

UK banks

Tested on real statements: HSBC, NatWest and Starling. In beta: Barclays, Lloyds, Santander, Nationwide, Monzo, Halifax and the other UK banks we read. Beta means we haven’t yet tested a real statement from that bank. The balance check still tells you if anything was missed, and one click sends us an anonymised layout report so we can add it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my bank statement uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is opened and read by your own browser, on your own computer. It is never sent to our server or anyone else’s, and nothing about it is stored. You can check this yourself: convert a statement, then disconnect from the internet and convert another one. It still works.

Which banks does it work with?

It reads statements by their columns (date, description, paid in, paid out, balance), not by a template for each bank. It has been tested on real HSBC, NatWest and Starling statements. Statements from Barclays, Lloyds, Santander, Monzo, Nationwide and other UK banks are in beta: some may already convert, and the balance check tells you straight away if anything was missed. See the full list of banks.

What does “checked to the penny” mean?

Every row’s printed balance is compared with the balance worked out from the row before it. If a single payment is missing or misread, the check shows the row and the exact amount. The opening balance plus money in, minus money out, must also equal the printed closing balance. If everything agrees, you see a difference of £0.00.

Can it convert a whole year of statements at once?

Yes. Choose “Several statements” and add all the PDFs. The whole-year check puts them in date order and looks for missing months, duplicate files, overlapping periods and balances that don’t carry over from one statement to the next, then exports one combined CSV. How the whole-year check works.

Does it work with scanned or photographed statements?

Not yet. It needs the PDF you download from online banking, which contains real text. A scan or a photo is just a picture of text and would need OCR, which isn’t supported yet.

Is it free?

Converting single statements to CSV for Excel, with the balance check, is free and unlimited. Pro adds the whole-year check, the combined CSV, Xero and QuickBooks files and edited-statement detection. During the beta, every feature is free for everyone. See pricing.

My statement PDF has a password. Can I still convert it?

Yes. Enter the password when asked. It is used by your browser to open the file and goes nowhere else.

Are you connected to my bank?

No. StatementToCSV is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any bank, and it never connects to your bank account. It only reads the PDF you choose.
